Last weekend we were in Sestriere where we conducted a tasting of our wines at 2,300 meters above sea level, organized by Qualitaly Association together with the Via Lattea tourist consortium and the Piedmont Academy of Enogastronomical Traditions.
It was not a tasting like the others, in fact, the intent of the organizers was to be able to understand and evaluate how (and if) the same wine can be different or change if tasted in particular conditions, promoting wines and traditional food of the Roero.
To do this "experiment", the tasting was done in two different locations: At the time of the aperitif a series of our wines were proposed and the location of the first tasting was in a beautiful chalet called CASA OLIMPIA in the center of Sestriere then in the evening they took us to the AQUILA NERA refuge (with a SNOWCAT!!) at a height of 2300 meters !!
Where we re-tasted the same wines, as well as an other our selection of red wines for the dinner, that featured typical dishes of the Piedmontese tradition.
The experiment proved to be very interesting beyond all expectations, some wines were completely different from each other.
We can safely say, in light of this experience that strengths and weaknesses at certain altitudes are amplified substantially or giving truly explosive sensations and fragrances, or exalting even more particularly some not so pleasant features.
